Sri Lanka posted a big total of 274-6 after hitting 62 runs in the last 5 overs, Jayawardene hitting a powerful knock of 103 not-out, but Indians after being down for 31-2 losing Sehwag and Sachin early, fighted back with Gambhir, Kohli, Dhoni and Yuvraj finishing off the game in style with few more balls remaining. India won by 6 wickets.

I would repeat what every Indian player – This cup is only and only for Sachin, the legend. He was here since 19 years, yet couldn’t get a world cup in his hands. But finally he was one of the most satisfied players in the team having the best day ever in life. The Indian team too badly needed this cup with the government failing at proving things right at any other sport, and corruption in the sports being at the top.
India won the semifinal game against Pakistan, after winning the quarterfinals against Australia, both the teams being very strong but India deserved the victories against them, and in the end they even deserved the win against Sri Lanka, another host nation of the world cup 2011. Gambhir hit 97 before he got out but Dhoni hit an unbeaten 91 to take India to the victory. It was a team effort and not a one-man-game.
